Esports Association of Malawi (EAM) was invited by Malawi National Sports Council (MNSC)’s to The two-weeks training camp at the University of science and technology (MUST) which was held between 21 December to 3 January.

During the camp, six esports athletes aged between 14 and 18 years participated in an intensive training program designed to build both individual and team-based competitive skills.

The athletes received hands-on training in eFootball, Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6, and Rocket League, exposing them to a diverse range of esports genres including sports simulation, fighting games, and team-based competitive play.

The training focused on building a strong foundation in basic game mechanics, game meta and strategies, and common esports terminology. Participants were also introduced to team Esports dynamics such as communication, coordination, sportsmanship, and professionalism, as well as an overview of different esports genres and career pathways within the esports ecosystem.

Although Esports will not be included in the upcoming 2026 Region 5 Youth Games to be held in Mozambique, EAM was encouraged by the MNSC’s decision to invite and support the association to continue nurturing young Esports talent.

This gesture demonstrated MNSC’s recognition of esports as a growing and relevant sporting discipline, as well as its commitment to youth development beyond traditional sports.
